We are delighted to announce that our Autism Ambassador Scheme, in which HAV is a leading partner, was one of three projects shortlisted for the National Autistic Society's prestigious Autism Professionals Awards 2020, in the ‘Most Creative Community Project’ category.
After publishing our Autism and Mental Health consultation film and report, in conjunction with NAS South Hampshire Branch, we worked within the Hampshire Autism Partnership Board to address the consultation's recommendations. As a result, the Hampshire Mental Health Charter for autistic people was launched on 20 February 2020. In June and July this year, we carried out a survey about how autistic people and their parents, carers or people who work with them find and use information and advice services in Hampshire. This forms part of the Hampshire Wellbeing Advice Service Project, in conjunction with Community First and Age Concern, and funded by Hampshire County Council. A total of 111 valid responses were received.
We asked how effective they thought these services were and asked them to provide specific examples of information and advice that they had received. The survey also asked recipients to evaluate the Local Autism Directory. Feedback from that section of the report has already been forwarded to Autism Hampshire so that they can make improvements as suggested from our recommendations.
In October and November 2016, the South Hampshire Branch of the National Autistic Society carried out a consultation about the way in which mental health affects autistic children and adults, and accessing services in Hampshire in the last 3 years. The consultation was funded and supported by Healthwatch Hampshire. The project was aimed at autistic children, young people and adults, their families/carers and professionals who work with them.
The branch worked in partnership with Hampshire Autism Voice and Autism Hampshire was commissioned to facilitate focus groups and one-to-one interviews. The consultation consisted of an online survey, two focus groups for parents and carers and seven 1:1 telephone interviews conducted with 6 autistic adults plus a parent of an adult who have accessed mental health services in Hampshire.
Once the online survey had closed, the initial results were discussed in a focus group with professionals consisting of Mental Health professionals, Hampshire County Council and Healthwatch Hampshire representatives.
There is also a film about the results, using footage from the focus groups and some interviews with participants. This report has been distributed to Healthwatch Hampshire, HAPB, the Department of Health Autism Lead, and any other useful channels.

This report analyses the results of the online survey that we created in June 2016. We have a very good response with over 200 responses received. To download the report, click here.
We did not receive enough responses to compile a conclusive report from this online survey, therefore this is an outline and general summary of the responses we did receive. The survey was in two parts, part 1 was about the need for an autism support service for adults, and part 2 was about the Autism Support Service run by Autism Hampshire’s Community Access Team. To download the report, click here.
The results will be fed back to the Hampshire Autism Partnership Board.
Reports of our previous surveys are available on our Surveys page.
